Music China 2026 to open in Shanghai with more than 800 fringe events
Music education, technology and wellbeing will feature alongside a major international trade fair when Music China opens in Shanghai on 28 October.
More than 1,500 exhibitors from 31 countries and regions are expected at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre for the four-day event, which runs until 31 October.
Now in its 23rd edition, Music China brings together instrument makers, suppliers, distributors, educators and musicians. Alongside exhibitions across 12 halls, the fair will host more than 800 fringe sessions, including workshops, industry discussions and live performances.
For music educators, the programme includes trial classes and practitioner-led sessions exploring classroom teaching methods, international certification and the use of technology. The Music and Education+ area will also offer hands-on workshops and opportunities to share ideas.
Technology is a further theme, with displays and discussions covering AI music creation tools, smart instruments and immersive audio. A forum on future music technology will explore topics including MIDI 2.0, AI-driven instrument design and the digital preservation of traditional Chinese music.
The fair will also examine connections between music and wellbeing, with sessions on music therapy, singing-based interventions and music-making for older people. Live performances and activities for families will run throughout the event.
Music China is organised by Messe Frankfurt, the China Musical Instrument Association and Shanghai Intex Exhibition Co Ltd.
