UCLA and International Conductors Guild launch Sibelius-Mozart workshop in Los Angeles
The International Conductors Guild and the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music are set to present a six-day conductor workshop in Los Angeles this June, offering selected participants the chance to work on major symphonic and operatic repertoire with orchestra and singers.
Running from 12 to 17 June 2026 at UCLA’s Schoenberg Music Building, the Sibelius-Mozart Conductor Workshop will centre on Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2, Mozart’s Symphony No. 38 ‘Prague’, the Overture to Don Giovanni and a selection of opera arias and recitatives.
Twelve participating conductors will be selected for the programme and will receive podium time with the UCLA Philharmonia. The faculty will include Neal Stulberg, Arthur Fagen, John Farrer and UCLA musicologist William Kinderman, with additional Alexander Technique instruction from Pamela Blanc.
According to the published workshop details, the programme is designed to combine orchestral and operatic conducting in a conservatoire setting, with live singers included alongside the orchestral sessions.
The application deadline is Monday 20 April 2026. The application fee is US$40 and tuition for selected participating conductors is listed at US$2,500.
