About Oxford Cello School

Founded in 1980 by Marianne Gottfeldt, the Oxford Cello School is an international summer school for cellists of all ages, backgrounds, nationalities and abilities.

The School combines intensive tuition with a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere, helping every student to develop their technique, musicianship and confidence. Its dedicated teaching team takes a flexible, individual approach, tailoring the experience to each player’s needs and potential.

Ensemble playing is central to the course. The School’s cello orchestras explore the instrument’s remarkable versatility through repertoire spanning every musical era, including works by leading contemporary composers commissioned by the Oxford Cello School.

With a strong staff-to-student relationship and an ambitious but supportive ethos, the School aims to help participants make what it describes as ‘a year’s progress in a week’.
