About The Glasgow School of Music
The Glasgow School of Music (GSofM) is an independent music school based in Glasgow, providing structured, high-quality music education for children, young people and adults.
The school offers individual tuition across piano, singing, guitar, violin, cello, flute, saxophone, drums, music theory and composition, alongside online learning and developing small-group programmes. Teaching is designed to support musicians at every stage, from complete beginners taking their first steps through to learners preparing for graded examinations and more advanced musical study.
GSofM places particular emphasis on developing the whole musician. Alongside instrumental and vocal technique, students are encouraged to build musicianship, confidence, theoretical understanding, independent learning skills and a lasting engagement with music.
This approach is also driving the development of Theory Compass, GSofM’s structured music-theory and musicianship platform, and the GSofM Academy, which extends the school’s teaching into progressive small-group learning pathways.
Theory Compass itself has also made a significant move forward in development recently. The platform is progressing from an initial learning resource into a much more structured digital learning environment, with graded pathways, modules and lessons, quizzes and assessment, learner progress and mastery tracking, and a growing framework designed to support substantially more content over time. It is becoming an increasingly important part of the wider GSofM educational model.
Together, these initiatives form part of GSofM’s wider aim to combine strong individual teaching with coherent, accessible routes through musical development.
The school’s guiding principle is simple: Lessons in Music, Skills for Life.
