AQA invites Music Hubs to help shape future GCSE and A-level Music qualifications
Music Hubs across England are being invited to take part in a series of collaborative focus group sessions with AQA, the awarding organisation, aimed at informing the future development of GCSE and A-level Music qualifications.
AQA, an independent education charity and the UK’s largest provider of academic qualifications, says it is engaging directly with the sector as possible reform of GCSE and A-level Music is considered. The organisation says the discussions are intended to help ensure that future qualifications reflect the realities of music education and meet the needs of young people and educators.
The focus groups will give Music Hub colleagues an opportunity to share their experiences of current GCSE and A-level Music qualifications, explore approaches to assessment including performance and composition, and highlight barriers to access, participation and progression.
Participants will also be invited to contribute ideas for reform and future development, and to consider how qualifications can support growth in music education. AQA says it will also share insights gathered from schools and teachers nationwide in order to build a broader picture of music education across England.
The work is aligned with the Department for Education’s Curriculum and Assessment Review and its ambition to develop a world-class curriculum for all.
